![]() ![]() Listening to the 1.7s was nice but the staging and dynamics seemed slightly smaller in comparison to my Apogee’s but they were not broken in and his show room is much smaller than my room 15x18 verses 18x27. He did advise me the speaker were brand new and had not been broken in. Most of our service manuals will include disassembly instructions, schematic diagrams, parts lists, exploded views, troubleshooting, wiring diagrams and much, much more. The owner treated me superbly and allowed me lots of time to listen to the speakers without trying to influence me. I did listen to the Maggie 1.7s at a show room at The House of Stereo in Jacksonville FL, about 2 hours from my house. I suspect the frequency transition will be smoother on the Maggies but if the staging is worse I will stick with the Centaurs. ![]() Has twenty years of technology made a difference and go with the Maggie 1.7s or do I stick with the Apogees Centaurs? If not I would love to hear if anyone has heard both the Centaurs and Maggie 1.7. Other than the ribbons (only one bad now but will replace both) the speaker are in great shape. I absolutely love these speakers and felt they blew away similar priced Maggie speakers of their era particularly in staging. While Alta-Vista Audio is closed, he does list a way to obtain a service manual for 50 which includes a schematic. My current Apogee Centaurs are 22 years old and the once replace ribbons need to be replaced again. I used to service the SA-12 and the SA-100, unfortunately the matched output pairs are now quite unobtainium. ![]()
